There is no one size fits all onboarding plan template for new hires. Each company and role may have specific needs.
The goal of this template is to provide a starting point for a company or manager to create an personalized onboarding plan for a new hire.
While many people like to structure an onboarding plan by day/time period, others like to structure it by group of resources. How you do it is up to you.
This onboarding doc can be used for managers to ensure their new hires have the right information / goals / tasks
Things in red and bolded are instructions for the manager creating the onboarding plan, and should be deleted.
Things in orange are examples, and should also be deleted
Make a personalized intro - KEEP IT SHORT
Mention you are excited they are here, that you understand they will be overwhelmed, and its important to take time
Tell the new hire you prefer questions and to ask away
Recommend they take notes in an onboarding document.
Hi _________! The team and I are so thrilled to have you - we’ve been waiting for someone with distributed systems and kafka experience like you have! We are lucky to have you, and can’t wait to see what you build here! 🙂
Onboarding can be overwhelming. I am sure you will be getting a lot of information, new systems, etc, and wonder what you should be doing.
Please:
Take Notes! Write down questions, anything that needs to be improved, etc - giving feedback will be one of your first tasks.
Ask questions - I personally love quick messages/questions on slack - I’d prefer you ask, rather than sitting and wondering if you should ask or who to ask. I am happy to point you in the right direction. I recommend either slacking me directly or please jump into our channel #TEAM-CHANNEL so that others can see (and answer).
Relax - Take a breath - We have a long road ahead of us - We’ll make sure you get set up for success!
